Unveiling Untold Stories

The Extraordinary Events at the Pacific Proving Grounds

Through the testimonies of U.S. atomic veterans, U.S. civilians, and a displaced Marshall Islander, Too Late to Learn uncovers the enduring human cost of nuclear tests at Bikini and Enewetak—and the impossible promise of “cleaning up” a poisoned paradise.

Our Documentary: "TOO LATE TO LEARN"

Joy once filled the Marshall Islands, but it faded after the first atomic bomb detonated at Bikini Atoll 80 years ago. This documentary reveals the aftermath of a cleanup effort that began 21 years after the last test, sharing the stories of those affected.
In 'Too Late to Learn,' we hear from US military personnel and civilians about their experiences with nuclear fallout. Navy veteran Herschel McFarland reflects on the lasting impact of radiation from the 1946 Operation Crossroads, the first of 67 tests. Paul Griego discusses the challenges of the Enewetak Atoll cleanup. We also meet Navy veteran F. Lincoln Grahlfs and Pastor Paul Lokebol Swington, who share how atomic testing changed their lives. Pastor Swington recounts the painful legacy of his displaced ancestors. Through animation, we visualize the fallout pattern of the Castle Bravo blast as he narrates. F. Lincoln Grahlfs shares his trauma and insights on radiation exposure, connecting with affected veterans. Sophie Griego, Paul’s daughter, expresses her concerns for her father and their future.
Together, these voices create a powerful narrative, urging reflection on the broader implications of these historical nuclear events.
